About This Program

UWF CyberSkills2Work offers a short-term, intensive training program designed to grow and diversify the cybersecurity workforce in the areas of systems administration and cyber defense. The program offers three pathways in an asynchronous and online learning environment. Each provide training, industry certification prep, job-matching support, program support resources, and a career path to the growing field of cybersecurity for transitioning military personnel, transitioning first responders, and veterans. **The application period for ALL of UWF's pathways are CLOSED.** They will reopen in the Fall of 2024.

About This Pathway

The System Administrator Pathway is designed to prepare participants for entry-level system administrator or related work roles, which are responsible for setting up and maintaining a system or specific components of a system (for example, installing, configuring, and updating hardware and software; establishing and managing user accounts; overseeing or conducting backup and recovery tasks; implementing operational and technical security controls; and adhering to organizational security policies and procedures). The pathway may lead to cyber defense infrastructure support specialist work role tasks that support tests and implements, deploys, maintains, and administers the infrastructure hardware and software. Graduates could perform other jobs, including as a platform specialist, security administrator, server administrator, system operations personnel, system security administrator, Local Area Network (LAN)/Wide Area Network (WAN) administrator, and UNIX/Windows system administrator, and web administrator.

Eligibility

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • Must be a veteran, transitioning service member, first responder, woman, military spouse, underrepresented minority, or government personnel.
  • Must have at least a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent. (School transcripts of the highest level education completed are required.)
  • Must have some IT or cybersecurity experience

Prerequisites

Basic computer and IT skills.

Applicants are highly encouraged to complete a free, brief, online introductory cybersecurity certification prior to applying and include their badge or documentation of completion as part of their application. Applicants who complete this certification prior to applying will be preferred as this demonstrates readiness for the training program. CISCO Training

Digital Badges Awarded

Participants will be presented with digital badges upon the completion of each course and the successful passing of industry certification exams, contingent on the inclusion of a certification exam prep course in the pathway. Additionally, graduates of the pathway will be awarded with a pathway badge.
